Many of you, and sometimes even ourselves, have wondered why we chose to call our journey the Sunchaser Expedition instead of going with Sunchaser Overland. After all, Overlanding is what we do! We try to travel through the roads less taken, the dusty trails, the unbeaten path. We try to stay away from the most populated campgrounds whenever possible, choosing instead to sleep in the back of our SUV or even a tent in favor of the RV park with the super large pavement chaser RVs. But, yes, it is true that while we favor those two-track paths through the back country, we do often find ourselves in more civilized routes out of necessity as well.

Overlanding is what we enjoy. We love to wake up each day not just in a different place but one that is hopefully surrounded by nature. How could we choose the sound of traffic over the trickling stream or a crashing wave. But Overlanding is what we DO. It is the path we take to get us where we want to go…or away from where we do not want to be .

When we first started tossing ideas around with each other, it was less about being on a rocky trail with a capable vehicle and more about just… well…being. We wanted to get away from the rat race, the social norm of going to work at different jobs and spending our days in separate places and finally at days end coming home to cook and clean and treasure just a few moments together before crashing exhausted into bed only to repeat the same cycle again the following day. We wanted to savor the mornings and take walked in the woods. We wanted to not feel rushed to end a conversation, to take time to smell those proverbial roses.

By definition: an expedition is nothing more than a journey, an adventure into unknown territory, a diving into uncharted waters. THAT is really our true desire. We DO Overlanding, and love it, because it is a way for us to follow our own paths, together. Our journey is one that takes us through life before we are too old to enjoy all the little things that we find along the way; the people, places and culture that we experience, the time that we get to spend together and the enjoyment we get from including those around us in our daily lives. We are driven by being with the ones that we love and have realized that it is our lives that are really the expedition. The chance to simply BE no matter where the adventure takes us, our journey is always moving forward, even when we are sitting still enjoying the sunset in another remarkable location. Overlanding gets us there, but we ARE the Sunchaser Expedition.
